How We Met

In the summer of 2023, Lucia moved from Peru to Utah. Moving to a new country can be an exciting experience, but also a frightening one. Having almost no connections or friends, Lucia downloaded Mutual, an app created for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to find and date one another. Lucia swiped through the app trying to find a nice young man to go on a date with. After many swipes and no significant matches, she came across Colten.

To Colten s amazement, he and Lucia had shared interests, including their love for movies, TV shows, and especially food.

Their first date was at Subway, where both immediately realized they had a language barrier. Lucia spoke Spanish and Colten English. Despite the challenge in communication, they went on a few more dates. The barrier caused uncertainty about their future and eventually their  relationship ended. It was a difficult decision. Colten believed Lucia understood his character more than anyone before.

Both started relationships with other people. But 7 months later, Lucia ended her relationship and to her surprise Colten had just done the same. The timing was unbelievable. They started talking again for a few weeks before eventually going on another date. Their second first date
was watching General Conference on her laptop. After a few months of dating, Colten decided she was the woman he wanted to marry. He bought the ring. He set the date. All was prepared for an outdoor proposal.

As Colten took a knee and in a language that can only be described as “casi español”, he proposed. Hearts stopped. Lightning flashed. But what may have been perceived as tumultuous weather planning to damper his spirits, turned out to be thunderous applause from above as she said: YES
